As discussed in SEO tip 1, you now have two to three pages that are most important to start with.
Another important part of SEO is keyword research. You now have to finalise a set of keywords relevant to your niche. The purpose is – we will use these keywords in our SEO campaigns to get your site ranking for these keywords.
Methods/Tools you can use for keyword research are:
- Google keyword planner – it is free but only give a general idea about search volume. (search volume is the number of people using a particular keyword in a given month.)
- semrush is another great tool. Just type a keyword in the search option and it will give you other relevant keywords and related keywords.
- Manual method is to type any relevant keyword in Google. In the results from page 1 to page 3, see what keywords your competitors or other similar sites are using. This should also give you an idea about important keywords in your niche.
- Google Keyword Suggestions– give you keyword ideas on result page itself. For instance, type “photographer Brisbane” and Google will suggest other keywords for you (see screenshot below)-
note: if your site is new or doesn’t have high authority, try not to go for popular keyword as it may have very high competition. You can find keyword difficulty or competition in tools such as semrush. For example, KD (keyword difficulty) for this keyword below is 51% (screenshot from semrush tool):
Try to find at least two to three keywords for each target page on your site. This way, you’ll have a set of keywords ready to be used in your SEO campaigns.

If you are just starting to perform SEO on your site, first thing you should do is to analyse the site and find two to three important pages to start with. You can’t do SEO for all the pages at once. It is recommended to start small.
Mostly these selected pages should be the most important pages for your business, of course. This is because these pages will eventually build up higher authority compared to other pages as a result of SEO.
note: authority means the pages has built up good trust with search engines such as Google. Higher authority= higher trust= higher ranking.
